The short answer
Asana runs free for 2 users, then $10.99 to $24.99 per seat per month on annual billing, with Enterprise priced by sales call. There is no seat minimum on Starter, unlike some competitors that force a 3-seat floor.
Two things worth flagging before you budget. Asana quietly cut its free-tier cap from 10 users to 2 for any account opened after November 2025, so a lot of “Asana is free for small teams” advice floating around is now wrong for new signups. And AI Studio, which sounds like a paid add-on, is actually bundled into every paid plan, the real AI upsell only kicks in once you blow through the included credit pool.

Starter and Advanced have no seat minimum, so a solo user can buy either paid tier directly. Monthly billing runs roughly 23% higher per seat than annual on both paid tiers. The free Personal plan is capped at 2 users for any workspace created after November 2025; workspaces created before that date keep a legacy 10-user cap. Enterprise and Enterprise+ pricing is not published and requires a sales conversation.

The free plan shrank
Asana cut its free tier from 10 users down to 2, and the change only applies to workspaces opened after November 2025. If you signed up before that, you keep the old 10-user room to breathe. If you’re new, you get two seats and that’s it.
A lot of guides floating around still say “free for up to 10 users.” That was true once. It isn’t anymore, and I’d bet most of those pages haven’t been touched since the cutoff.
Two people is still a real product though, not a stripped demo. Unlimited tasks, projects, list/board/calendar views, and 100+ integrations all ship free. What you don’t get until Starter is Timeline, Gantt views, automations, or reporting dashboards. The moment a third person needs a login, you’re paying $10.99 a seat a month on annual billing, or $13.49 on monthly.
AI Studio is free until it isn’t
Every paid tier ships AI Studio Basic at no extra charge. Starter gets 50K credits a month, Advanced gets 75K, Enterprise gets 200K. That’s unusual. Most competitors bill AI as a separate line item from day one.
The credit pool is per account, not per seat, so a 5-person team and a 50-person team on the same plan get the same allowance. That matters if you’re running a lot of automated AI rules across a small headcount, you’ll chew through the pool faster than the team size suggests.
Cross that line and AI Studio Plus kicks in: a flat $135 to $150 a month per account for another 100K credits. There’s also an AI Studio Pro tier, sales-led, roughly 5 million credits a quarter, built for teams running AI workflows at real volume. None of this touches a normal project-tracking team on Starter or Advanced. You’d have to be doing something unusually AI-heavy to see a bill.
Where Starter tops out
Starter covers more than people expect: Timeline, Gantt, reporting dashboards, unlimited automations, forms, custom fields. That’s most of the day-to-day workload for a project-tracking team, and there’s no seat minimum, so a single freelancer can buy Starter directly.
Advanced costs $24.99, a 127% jump, and the extra money buys two things specifically: Goals for OKR tracking and unlimited Portfolios for rolling multiple projects into one view. Workload management, time tracking and approvals come along for the ride. A team running five separate projects with no cross-project reporting need can sit on Starter indefinitely and pocket the difference, roughly $1,400 a year for a ten-seat team.
Against Monday, and the bottom line
Monday forces a 3-seat minimum even for a solo buyer, which sets a real monthly floor around $27 before you’ve added a single teammate. Asana has no such floor on Starter or Advanced, so under three people it’s the cheaper door in.
Budget it like this: stay on the free plan only if you’re truly two people or fewer, move to Starter the day a third joins, and only pay for Advanced once Goals or cross-project Portfolios are an actual requirement, not a someday-maybe.
