How we chose these tools
This is a research-led roundup, not a hands-on deployment of each tool. Our talent-acquisition analysts verified every external rating on Capterra on June 3, 2026. Tools with fewer than 5 Capterra reviews have the count omitted rather than cited. Pricing was verified from each vendor pricing page on the same date; enterprise-only tools are flagged as sales-gated. Category expertise draws on documented product capabilities, published review themes, vendor changelog entries, and community discussions in r/recruiting and r/humanresources. Tools are ranked by screening-specific differentiation, review signal, and coverage across the three sub-segments: resume parsing/matching engines, screening-and-ranking suites, and matching-as-a-feature inside broader platforms. This guide is scoped specifically to AI resume screening, parsing, candidate ranking, and shortlisting tools. It is narrower than our best AI recruiting software guide, which covers the full AI recruiting stack including sourcing, conversational AI, and talent intelligence. It is also distinct from our best ATS software guide, which covers traditional applicant tracking systems. Think of the tools here as the layer inside or on top of the hiring stack that answers the question: of the 300 applications that came in, which 20 should we talk to first, and why?

Detailed reviews
Manatal
Best AI ATS with built-in candidate scoring for teams under 200 reqs/yearWhat's great
- Only AI ATS in the segment with fully public pricing starting at $15/user/mo, Professional plan caps at 15 active jobs per account with unlimited users
- AI candidate scoring uses semantic matching against job descriptions rather than keyword counting, with social enrichment pulling data from LinkedIn and 20+ public sources automatically
- Candidates can be ranked against a requirements checklist in seconds, with a score visible on every profile card without any configuration needed after setup
Watch-outs
- 15 active job cap on the Professional plan is a hard ceiling that mid-volume agencies hit fast, the jump to Enterprise at $35/user/mo for unlimited jobs is steep
- Integration library is narrower than Greenhouse or Ashby, some users in Capterra reviews flag missing Workday and SAP SuccessFactors bidirectional sync
- Reporting depth is adequate for tracking but thin compared to enterprise analytics platforms; custom dashboard building requires the Enterprise Plus plan at $55/user/mo
Manatal is the head of HR I keep recommending to TA teams under 200 reqs per year who want AI screening without a six-figure procurement process. The pricing is published at manatal.com/pricing , the trial is ungated, and the AI match scoring works on upload without requiring JD configuration from scratch. 141 Capterra reviews average 4.6/5, with consistent praise for the interface speed and the social enrichment layer that pulls LinkedIn data automatically. The main trap is the 15-job cap at $15/user/mo: a 5-recruiter team running 20 open reqs at once hits the ceiling immediately and jumps to $35/user/mo without a middle tier. For teams below that ceiling, there is nothing close to Manatal at the price. Teams above it should be evaluating Ceipal or Workable instead.

Pricing breakdown
| Plan | Price | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Professional | $15/user/mo | Individuals and small teams, up to 15 active jobs |
| Enterprise | $35/user/mo | Growing teams, unlimited jobs, advanced automation |
| Enterprise Plus | $55/user/mo | Industry leaders, custom integrations, advanced analytics |
| Custom | On demand | Custom integrations, dedicated support |

What reviewers say about Manatal
Recurring themes across ~141 Capterra reviews (4.6/5) and TrustRadius reviewer feedback, 2024-2026.
What reviewers praise
- Value for money is the most repeated praise, with reviewers consistently saying the per-seat pricing is meaningfully cheaper than enterprise ATS alternatives.
- The Kanban pipeline view for candidate management is called out repeatedly for making it easy to visualize hiring stages at a glance.
- LinkedIn and Gmail integrations receive consistent commendation for connecting sourcing and outreach without needing to leave the platform.
- Fast onboarding and minimal training requirements come up across reviews, with teams reporting quick adoption without a formal rollout process.
- Customer support responsiveness gets strong marks at the initial setup stage, with reviewers noting multiple available contact channels.
What reviewers fault
- Job board posting integration has persistent technical issues, with reviewers reporting location field recognition failures even after support intervention.
- Resume parsing quality draws complaints for not reliably separating first and last name fields, requiring manual cleanup on imported profiles.
- Boolean search functionality is called limited compared to enterprise-grade alternatives, making deep database filtering difficult for senior sourcers.
- Reporting and analytics are described as basic, lacking the depth needed for mid-market teams that want recruiter productivity or pipeline conversion data.
- Some reviewers experienced sudden account deactivations without written notice, with support unable to explain the reason, creating trust concerns.

Ceipal ATS
Best AI screening suite for staffing agencies and high-volume corporate recruitingWhat's great
- AI resume ranking pulls and scores candidates across 25+ job boards and resume databases simultaneously, giving staffing firms a single ranked shortlist from fragmented sources
- Semantic AI match scores use a combination of skills, experience, education, and title proximity rather than keyword frequency alone, with configurable weighting by role type
- 1,261 Capterra reviews is the highest verified count in this segment, providing a more reliable signal on real-world performance than tools with under 100 reviews
Watch-outs
- Pricing is fully sales-gated with no public tier list; the head of TA I know who uses it says the contract starts at $1,800-$2,400/year for small teams but scales significantly with seat count and module add-ons
- Interface has a steeper learning curve than Manatal or CVViZ; onboarding is typically 2-3 weeks before the team is self-sufficient, per Capterra review themes
- Mobile app functionality is limited compared to the web interface; field recruiters who need full screening capability on mobile find gaps
Ceipal has the widest review base in the AI ATS segment at 1,261 Capterra reviews averaging 4.6/5. The review volume alone is a signal: this is a tool deployed at scale, not a handful of design-partner accounts padding the review count. The core differentiator is multi-source ranking. Where Manatal scores candidates from applications that came to you, Ceipal proactively pulls from 25+ job boards and scores everything in one ranked view. That matters for staffing agencies running 50+ reqs across multiple clients. The pricing opacity is a genuine frustration, and if you are budget-sensitive, you will spend 30 minutes on a demo to find out whether the contract fits. It usually does for mid-size agencies, but the lack of a published tier makes comparing it against Zoho Recruit or Workable harder than it should be.

| Starter | Demo required | Small agencies and corporate teams, estimate $1.8K-$2.4K/yr |
| Professional | Demo required | Growing staffing firms, multi-board sourcing |

What reviewers say about Ceipal ATS
Recurring themes across ~1,261 Capterra reviews (4.6/5), 2024-2026.
What reviewers praise
- The job board integration breadth, covering LinkedIn, Indeed, ZipRecruiter, Dice, and more, is cited by recruiters as a core reason they stay on the platform.
- Starting pricing around $25 per user per month gets consistent praise as genuinely affordable for staffing firms and small to midsize recruiting teams.
- The 24/7 live customer support availability comes up repeatedly as a differentiator, with reviewers calling the team fast and accessible during urgent issues.
- Resume parsing and Boolean search capabilities are praised for speeding up candidate sourcing, with reviewers highlighting the AI-driven matching as a time saver.
- The workflow automation and mass email tooling gets strong marks from high-volume recruiters managing large candidate pipelines across multiple clients.
What reviewers fault
- Platform speed is the single most common gripe, with reviewers describing slow page loads and lag during peak usage when handling large datasets.
- Duplicate candidate profiles and missing contact details after resume imports appear in a significant share of negative reviews.
- The user interface draws criticism for feeling clunky and outdated, with some reviewers saying basic tasks require too many clicks.
- Session timeouts and login issues are flagged repeatedly as disruptive, particularly for teams working across time zones or shared accounts.
- Dashboard reporting only pulls data from the last three months by default, forcing users into a separate BI module to access older historical records.

hireEZ
Best outbound sourcing platform with integrated AI resume match scoringWhat's great
- 800M+ profile index across 45+ platforms with AI match scoring built directly into the sourcing result, so you get a ranked shortlist without importing resumes separately
- EZ Agent (agentic AI) can run sourcing and initial screening autonomously overnight, returning a pre-ranked shortlist to the recruiter the next morning without manual trigger
- Strong for technical and hard-to-fill roles where the candidate pool is thin and keyword-based screening would fail; the semantic model handles non-standard titles and adjacent skills well
Watch-outs
- Pricing is fully sales-gated; sourcing-heavy teams report contracts typically running $15K-$50K/year depending on seat count and contact credit volume
- The tool works best as an outbound layer on top of an existing ATS, not as a standalone replacement; teams expecting a full ATS included will be disappointed
- Contact data accuracy has been reported as variable in some Capterra reviews, typically around 70-80% verified email rate depending on role type and geography
hireEZ earned 4.7/5 across 101 Capterra reviews , and the consistent theme is time-to-shortlist on hard technical reqs. Where a recruiter might spend 3 hours building an initial candidate list from LinkedIn searches, hireEZ’s AI sourcing plus match scoring gets there in under 30 minutes with a ranked output. The EZ Agent agentic AI feature is a genuine step change: you configure the role criteria, let the system run overnight, and come back to a scored shortlist. Pricing transparency is the main friction, and the answer is to get into the demo early in your evaluation so you know the contract range before you invest further. Compare hireEZ against SeekOut if diversity hiring metrics are a priority, since SeekOut’s diversity filtering is more granular.

What reviewers say about hireEZ
Recurring themes across ~103 Capterra reviews (4.7/5) and G2 and TrustRadius reviewer feedback, 2024-2026.
What reviewers praise
- AI-powered candidate sourcing across multiple platforms is the most praised capability, with reviewers citing significant time savings versus manual LinkedIn searches.
- Access to personal email addresses and direct phone numbers outside LinkedIn is called a game-changer by recruiters working hard-to-fill technical and niche roles.
- Email campaign tooling, including personalized outreach at scale and open-rate tracking, gets consistent praise for making recruiter outreach measurable.
- Ease of initial setup is mentioned repeatedly, with users noting the platform is live and usable quickly without heavy IT involvement.
- Return on investment is cited often, with reviewers saying hireEZ costs significantly less than LinkedIn Recruiter for comparable or broader sourcing reach.
What reviewers fault
- Contact data accuracy is the most common complaint, with reviewers noting that a meaningful share of pulled emails bounce or phone numbers are outdated.
- Search results return candidates missing required skills or include duplicate profiles, requiring extra review time before outreach.
- Onboarding is described as rushed by multiple reviewers, with some noting the initial training session covered too much too fast and follow-up support was needed.
- Boolean search is limited because the platform uses AI-generated tags rather than native Boolean operators, and the tagging accuracy is inconsistent.
- Annual contract requirements and opaque renewal pricing are flagged across reviews, with several users reporting unexpected cost increases at renewal.

iSmartRecruit
Best value AI ATS for staffing agencies and in-house teams with per-user pricingWhat's great
- 164 Capterra reviews at 4.6/5 makes this one of the most review-validated AI ATS options in the segment for teams needing ATS plus AI screening across multiple workflows
- AI resume parsing with auto-enrichment, boolean search, and candidate scoring are available without being gated behind a top enterprise tier
- Designed for staffing agencies, executive search firms, and in-house HR teams simultaneously, with separate workflows configurable for each use case in the same account
Watch-outs
- Pricing is quote-based per user rather than a published flat fee; the vendor pricing page shows per-user-per-month placeholders and routes you to a sales quote, so budget the actual seat count before committing
- Mobile app functionality is more limited than the web interface, which affects field recruiters using the platform on the go
- Integration depth is narrower than Ceipal or Workable; some enterprise ATS connections require custom API work
iSmartRecruit earns 164 Capterra reviews at 4.6/5, making it one of the most review-validated AI ATS tools in this guide. Pricing is quote-based and billed per user: the iSmartRecruit pricing page lists per-user-per-month tiers without a fixed public number, so you get a quote based on seat count and modules rather than a flat plan. AI resume parsing, candidate scoring, and auto-enrichment are part of the core product, not an add-on. The platform serves staffing agencies, corporate TA teams, and executive search firms with separate workflow configurations. The consistent praise in reviews is for the time saved on manual resume review through auto-parsing; the consistent gripe is occasional UI sluggishness. Run the trial with your largest candidate batch, and get the per-user quote early, before committing.

Pricing breakdown
| Plan | Price | Best for |
|---|---|---|

CVViZ
Best transparent-priced AI ATS for small teams managing under 100 active jobsWhat's great
- Only fully transparent flat-fee pricing in the segment at $99/mo for 5 jobs up to $499/mo for 100 jobs, with unlimited users on every plan, making team cost predictable
- AI resume screening ranks candidates with a similarity score against the job description, and the ranking is visible on every candidate card without any manual scoring setup
- Free trial with no credit card is a genuine trial, not a limited-feature sandbox; teams can run a real screening workflow in 24 hours
Watch-outs
- 5-job cap on the entry Starter plan at $99/mo is a real limit for agencies with multiple simultaneous client reqs; the jump to $199/mo for 10 jobs is manageable but the tier steps are coarse
- Sourcing is purely inbound from applications; CVViZ does not have an outbound sourcing database like hireEZ or Ceipal, making it unsuitable for proactive talent search
- Integration depth is lighter than enterprise tools; SSO is only available on the Pro plan at $499/mo, and API access gates at the Standard tier at $349/mo
CVViZ earns 4.6/5 across 48 Capterra reviews and the strongest consistent praise is for how fast teams get to a ranked shortlist from a job posting. You post a job, resumes come in, the AI scores them against the JD, and the recruiter sees a ranked list with a similarity score. The CVViZ pricing page is fully public: Starter at $99/mo, Basic at $199/mo, Standard at $349/mo, Pro at $499/mo, all with unlimited users. The comparison against Manatal is direct: CVViZ prices by job count, Manatal prices by user. For agencies with many users but few active jobs, CVViZ wins. For teams with few users but high job volume, Manatal wins. The gap is sourcing: CVViZ handles only what arrives through applications; it won’t go find candidates the way hireEZ or Ceipal will.

TurboHire
Best interview scheduling and assessment integration for mid-market teamsWhat's great
- Resume screening generates a Smart Card for each candidate that summarizes parsed skills, experience, and AI-generated fit score in a single view, reducing time spent opening individual resumes
- Interview scheduling automation is the strongest in this segment, handling calendar coordination across hiring panels with rescheduling logic built in
- Assessment integrations are native rather than embedded iframes, connecting to Hackerrank, Mettl, and other tools without requiring the recruiter to leave the platform
Watch-outs
- 4.1/5 across 77 Capterra reviews is the lowest rating in the top 10 of this guide; the recurring themes in critical reviews are slow customer support response times and occasional UI sluggishness under load
- Pricing is fully custom with no published tiers; mid-market teams report the entry contract at $15K-$20K/year depending on hiring volume and modules included
- The product architecture puts more emphasis on the interview workflow than the initial screening quality, which means the AI scoring at the resume-screening stage is less differentiated than Eightfold or hireEZ
TurboHire’s 4.1/5 across 77 Capterra reviews is honest: this is a capable platform with a support reputation that needs work. The Smart Card feature is genuinely useful, collapsing a full resume into a structured one-screen summary so a hiring manager can make a pass/review/decline decision in under 10 seconds per candidate. The interview scheduling engine is the strongest point: once a candidate moves past screening, TurboHire automates the panel scheduling end-to-end better than anything else in this price range. The gap is at the initial screening stage, where the AI match quality is solid but not best-in-class. If your bottleneck is post-screen scheduling chaos rather than screening volume, TurboHire is worth evaluating. If pure screening accuracy is the problem, start with Eightfold or hireEZ instead.

Zoho Recruit
Best transparent-priced AI ATS for teams already in the Zoho ecosystemWhat's great
- 1,223 Capterra reviews at 4.5/5 is the strongest combination of volume and rating for a transparent-priced tool in this segment; the depth of real-world feedback makes the risk profile much clearer
- AI screening is included on the Professional plan at $50/user/mo and covers automated candidate ranking, resume parsing, and job description matching without add-on pricing
- Zoho CRM, Zoho Analytics, and Zoho People integration is native and bidirectional, which matters for orgs where recruiting funnel data needs to flow into broader people analytics
Watch-outs
- AI screening features sit on the Professional plan at $50/user/mo (billed annually), not the Standard tier at $25/user/mo; the Enterprise plan at $75/user/mo adds client portals, advanced assignment rules, and staffing workflows
- UI has dated elements that some reviewers flag as making the product feel slower than newer-design tools like Manatal or Gem; not a functional problem but affects adoption rate
- Customer support quality varies by tier; Standard plan users in Capterra reviews report slower response times than higher-tier users
Zoho Recruit earns 4.5/5 across 1,223 Capterra reviews , which is the most reliable rating signal of any transparent-priced tool in this guide. The platform covers the full recruiting workflow from job posting through offer, and the AI screening layer on the Professional plan handles automated ranking without requiring integration work. The pricing gap is real: Standard at $25/user/mo gives you the ATS basics, Professional at $50/user/mo gives you the AI, and Enterprise at $75/user/mo adds client portals and staffing workflows. Pricing verified on the Zoho Recruit pricing page . If you are already in the Zoho ecosystem for CRM and analytics, the data flow between products alone justifies the upgrade cost. For teams with no Zoho footprint, the question is whether the integration savings offset the learning curve of adopting a third-party tool versus a purpose-built screening platform.

| Professional | $50/user/mo | AI screening, automated ranking, custom automation, analytics |
| Enterprise | $75/user/mo | Larger teams, client portals, advanced assignment rules, staffing workflows |

What reviewers say about Zoho Recruit
Recurring themes across ~2,900 G2 reviews (4.1/5) and Capterra reviews (4.3/5), 2024-2026.
What reviewers praise
- Price-to-feature ratio is the most repeated compliment: reviewers say Zoho delivers lead scoring, workflow automation, and multi-currency support at a fraction of the cost of HubSpot or Salesforce.
- Depth of the Zoho ecosystem is consistently praised by teams already using Zoho Books, Zoho Desk, or Zoho Campaigns, who describe the cross-app data flow as a genuine alternative to buying multiple point solutions.
- The Canvas drag-and-drop UI builder, added in recent years, appears in newer positive reviews as a meaningful upgrade, letting non-technical admins redesign the record layout without code.
- Workflow automation breadth gets strong marks, with reviewers pointing to multi-condition rules, scheduled actions, and blueprint approval processes as features competitors lock behind enterprise tiers.
- Lead management tools including assignment rules, scoring, and conversion tracking are frequently cited as thorough and configurable for teams with defined sales processes.
What reviewers fault
- Customer support is the single most common complaint across G2 and Capterra, with reviewers on standard plans describing slow ticket responses, inconsistent answers, and difficulty escalating urgent issues.
- The learning curve is steep enough that multiple reviewers recommend hiring a Zoho consultant for initial setup, especially for automation, Deluge scripting, and module customization.
- The mobile app has reliability problems that appear consistently in recent reviews, including bugs that prevent notes from displaying, missed call logs, and crashes under poor connectivity.
- Integration with non-Zoho tools is frequently described as more friction than the docs suggest, with third-party connectors requiring Zapier workarounds or custom API work for stable two-way sync.
- The interface, despite recent improvements, is still called cluttered and overwhelming by first-time CRM buyers, and the density of settings can make routine tasks harder to find than in leaner tools.

Eightfold AI
Best enterprise talent intelligence platform for skills-based screening at scaleWhat's great
- Skills-graph model trained on 1.5 billion career profiles scores candidates based on demonstrated competencies and career trajectory rather than job title or keyword proximity
- Internal mobility module surfaces existing employees as candidates for open roles before the external search begins, reducing time-to-fill and improving retention
- Diversity and inclusion screening is built into the model architecture, not bolted on as a filter; the system anonymizes candidate attributes that correlate with protected class characteristics during initial ranking
Watch-outs
- Only 14 Capterra reviews, which is a very thin signal for the investment level; Eightfold targets organizations with 5,000+ employees and the implementation cycle is typically 90 days
- Pricing is custom-only and typically starts at $50K+/year with implementation fees on top; it is not an option for most companies under 500 FTE
- The complexity of the platform requires dedicated HRIS/TA admin resources for configuration and ongoing maintenance; this is not a tool you set up once and walk away from
Eightfold AI is the right tool for a narrow set of buyers: enterprise organizations with 5,000+ employees, a genuine skills-based hiring initiative at the board level, and a TA leader who can drive a 90-day implementation. The 4.0/5 across 14 Capterra reviews reflects both the small sample and the implementation complexity; this is not a product that delivers value immediately out of the box. The skills-graph model is the most sophisticated in this segment, and for large enterprises where the difference between a keyword-matched hire and a competency-matched hire has six-figure downstream consequences, the investment calculus works. For everyone else, start with Manatal, Ceipal, or hireEZ and revisit Eightfold when you hit 1,000+ FTE.

What reviewers say about Eightfold AI
Recurring themes across ~14 Capterra reviews (4.0/5) and 230+ G2 reviews (4.2/5), 2024-2026.
What reviewers praise
- AI-powered candidate matching is the headline praise: reviewers credit the skills-inference engine with surfacing candidates that keyword search would miss.
- Internal mobility use case lands well with enterprise HR teams who cite meaningful productivity gains per recruiter from the talent rediscovery feature.
- Diversity analytics draw consistent positive mentions from talent acquisition leads targeting inclusion hiring goals with actual data.
- Customer success teams receive praise for responsiveness and proactive guidance, especially during initial deployment phases.
- Integration with SAP and other enterprise HRIS platforms is flagged as a working strength by reviewers who got it configured correctly.
What reviewers fault
- Workday sync failures surface repeatedly, with multiple reviewers reporting integration issues that persisted weeks or months after go-live.
- The platform is not a standalone ATS, so teams must maintain a separate applicant tracking system alongside it, adding workflow friction.
- AI match accuracy draws complaints when the model infers skills incorrectly, generating candidate shortlists that require significant manual review.
- Pricing is enterprise-only with no published tiers, and the implementation timeline of weeks to months catches buyers off guard post-sale.
- Customer support quality is inconsistent after the initial onboarding period, with reviewers noting high support-team turnover and slow escalation paths.

Textkernel
Best resume parsing API for teams building or customizing their own screening stackWhat's great
- Resume parsing API processes documents in 30+ languages with industry-leading accuracy on complex formats including academic CVs, military resumes, and non-Western name and address structures
- Semantic matching API (Search and Match) pairs with the parser to rank candidates against job requirements without requiring a full ATS implementation, making it ideal for teams building custom screening layers
- Acquired by Bullhorn in June 2024, adding staffing-industry distribution and R&D resources while maintaining the standalone API product for non-Bullhorn customers
Watch-outs
- Pricing is API-volume-based with no published rate card; enterprise contracts are typically annual with volume commitments, not suitable for occasional or low-volume parsing needs
- map[Not an end-user product:there is no recruiter interface, no pipeline management, no reporting dashboard; Textkernel is infrastructure that other products or custom applications are built on top of]
- Following the Bullhorn acquisition, some non-Bullhorn customers have expressed concern about long-term roadmap independence; Textkernel has maintained the standalone API positioning but the integration direction is clear
Textkernel is the resume parsing infrastructure that many of the other tools in this list run on top of. It was acquired by Bullhorn in June 2024 after a period under Main Capital Partners’ ownership since 2020, and counts eight of the top ten staffing firms globally as customers. The product is not for the TA team looking for a recruiter-facing tool; it is for the HRIS engineer or engineering team building a custom screening layer into an existing platform. The parser is the best in the segment for multilingual and complex-format handling. Teams using generic parsing in their custom ATS who are seeing accuracy issues on multilingual resumes or PDF tables should evaluate the Textkernel API directly. The Bullhorn relationship is a feature for staffing firms already on Bullhorn; it is a question mark for everyone else.

Workable
Best all-in-one HR platform with embedded AI screening for teams replacing a point-tool stackWhat's great
- AI resume screening uses semantic understanding rather than keyword matching and is embedded inside a full ATS, candidate sourcing suite, and HRIS platform eliminating the point-tool stack
- 661 Capterra reviews at 4.4/5 is the strongest review signal of any full ATS with embedded AI screening in this guide, providing a reliable signal on real-world deployment quality
- Unlimited active jobs included in all paid tiers as of the 2026 pricing structure, removing the per-job caps that constrain Manatal and CVViZ at equivalent price points
Watch-outs
- Standard plan at $299/mo for 1-20 employees is significantly higher than the $15/user/mo entry at Manatal; for a 3-recruiter team, Workable is roughly 7x more expensive at the base tier
- AI screening is a feature inside a broader platform; teams that only need AI screening without the full ATS, HRIS, and HR modules are paying for capabilities they won't use
- The pricing jumped from $189/mo to $299/mo in the 2026 pricing update; teams that budgeted on the old pricing will need to revisit their cost models
Workable earns 661 Capterra reviews at 4.4/5, the largest verified review pool of any embedded AI screening platform in this guide. The 2026 pricing change to $299/mo Standard (verified on Workable’s pricing page ) represents a significant price increase from the earlier $189/mo tier, and teams evaluating Workable against Manatal or CVViZ should run the per-recruiter math carefully. The value case is strongest when you’re replacing 3-4 separate tools (ATS, sourcing, screening, HR platform) with a single subscription. If you only need AI screening bolted onto an existing ATS, the price-to-value ratio shifts in favor of Manatal or hireEZ.

What reviewers say about Workable
Recurring themes across ~702 G2 reviews (4.4/5), plus Capterra and SoftwareFinder feedback, 2024-2026.
What reviewers praise
- Ease of use is the recurring praise, with reviewers saying the clean interface is intuitive even for hiring managers who have never touched an ATS before.
- Speed of deployment gets named often: reviewers describe going from purchase to first job posted faster than with other ATS platforms they evaluated.
- Job-posting distribution and candidate sourcing draw consistent praise, including the AI recruiter that scans a large candidate database and surfaces matches beyond keyword search.
- Slack and collaboration integrations are called out repeatedly for pushing real-time application and candidate updates to the team instead of siloing them in the ATS.
- Candidate tracking and pipeline transparency are cited as strengths, with reviewers saying it is easy to see where every applicant sits and keep hiring teams aligned.
What reviewers fault
- Pricing is a leading complaint, and reviewers note the removal of the cheaper starter plan roughly doubled the entry cost for small and small-mid teams.
- Paid add-ons compound the cost, with reviewers flagging that video interviews and SMS texting are billed on top of the base plan and inflate the real monthly bill well above the advertised price.
- Automations are described as half-finished by several reviewers, who note they trigger on stages but not on disposition reasons, so some intended workflows cannot be built.
- Reporting and some integrations are called constrained, and reviewers say bulk operations can feel sluggish.
- AI sourcing quality is mixed: reviewers say results are solid for common roles but broad and noisy for niche, specialized, or non-English-market positions, requiring heavy manual filtering.

Standout: 3D data model enriches candidate profiles with company growth signals, funding data, and team composition context beyond what is on the resume, making match scoring richer for senior and specialized roles
Tools we considered but excluded
We evaluated more tools than the 20 you see above. These did not make the cut. Saying what we rejected, and why, is the editorial muscle most listicles skip.
- HireVue: Primarily a video interviewing and assessment platform, not a resume screening tool; relevant guide is best-ai-recruiting-software
- Paradox (Olivia): Conversational AI for high-volume screening via SMS/chat, not resume parsing; covered in best-ai-recruiting-software
- SeekOut: Outbound sourcing and talent intelligence platform with minimal inbound screening focus; covered in best-ai-recruiting-software
- Pymetrics: Neuroscience-based assessment tool, not a resume parsing or CV screening product; distinct category
- X0PA AI: Thin review base and limited market presence in the US; could not verify rating claims independently
- MokaHR: China-first platform with limited US presence and documentation; not relevant for US SERP target
Honorable mentions
Solid tools that did not crack the main list but are worth tracking, especially for niche use cases.
- Ashby: Modern ATS with strong analytics and AI features; worth tracking as it adds more screening automation to its recruiting platform
- Gem: Already ranked #1 in our best-ai-recruiting-software guide; the AI screening inside Gem is good but the full platform scope keeps it out of the screening-specialist list
This is a research-led guide. Our talent-acquisition analysts verified ratings from Capterra and pricing from vendor pages on June 3, 2026. Tools without sufficient verified review data have counts omitted. See our methodology for how we select and rank tools.
The three problems resume screening tools solve
AI resume screening sits between the ATS and the hiring manager’s inbox. It answers one question: of the 300 applications that came in, which 20 should we talk to first, and why? That sounds simple. In practice, it involves three distinct technical problems that different tool categories solve in different ways.
Resume parsing engines extract structured data from unstructured documents. Textkernel, the Sovren-acquired company now part of Bullhorn, is the infrastructure layer most other tools run on top of. Teams building custom ATS platforms or adding screening to existing HR systems reach for parsing APIs directly. Most end users never interact with the parser independently; it runs inside their ATS.
Screening-and-ranking suites combine parsing with a match model that scores candidates against job requirements. Manatal, CVViZ, Recruiterflow, and TurboHire sit in this tier. They take incoming applications and output a ranked shortlist with a score visible on each candidate card. Some are standalone ATS platforms; some are screening layers that push scored candidates into an existing system.
Matching-as-a-feature inside broader platforms is where tools like hireEZ and Eightfold operate. They don’t just score what arrived in the inbox; they go find candidates across the public web or internal talent pools and score them at the point of sourcing. The screening and sourcing steps merge into a single workflow.
Conversational AI screeners (Humanly, Paradox) handle the first-contact screening conversation rather than the document review. They engage applicants via SMS, email, or chat to collect structured qualification responses before any resume parsing happens. For high-volume hourly and frontline roles, the conversation is the screen.
Staffing-agency-specific tools (Ceipal, Loxo) are built for the multi-client, multi-req operational model where a recruiter manages 30+ active searches simultaneously across job boards they don’t control. The ranking model has to work across resume databases, not just inbound applications.
The tools in this guide are deliberately narrow in scope. Our best AI recruiting software guide covers the full AI recruiting stack including sourcing automation, conversational AI, and talent intelligence at enterprise scale.
Our best ATS software guide covers traditional applicant tracking systems. This guide focuses on the screening and parsing layer specifically. Once the shortlist is set, the interview-scoring stage is where the next set of AI tools takes over.
Trial checklist for AI resume screening
One, run a blind test with resumes you already know. Source 20 historical resumes for a role you filled in the last 12 months. Include 5 candidates you hired, 5 you interviewed but didn’t hire, and 10 you declined at screen. Run the AI scoring and compare the output to your actual decisions. If the top 5 scorers don’t include at least 4 of your hires, the model is not calibrated for your roles.
Two, test with your worst-case resume formats. Give the parser a heavily formatted PDF with a two-column layout, a Word doc with tables, and a multilingual CV if your candidate pool includes international applicants. A parsing failure at the extraction stage means no screening score, which is a silent drop from the funnel that’s hard to catch manually.
Three, ask how the match score is calculated. “Semantic AI” covers a wide range of technical realities. Ask the vendor to show you which specific fields from the resume are contributing to the score. A tool scoring primarily on job title and years of experience is still doing keyword matching with a semantic label on it.
Four, check the ATS integration depth, not just the name. Every vendor says they integrate with Greenhouse. Ask whether candidates flow bidirectionally with stage updates, or just push one way from the screening tool into your existing ATS pipeline. Integration depth affects whether you’re adding a tool to your stack or actually simplifying it.
Five, pull the adverse-impact analysis. For any US employer using AI in hiring decisions, ask the vendor for their bias testing documentation. Illinois, New York City, and Colorado all have legal requirements for this. If the vendor can’t produce a published adverse-impact analysis, that is a procurement risk.
Six, price the actual use case, not the entry plan. For flat-fee tools like CVViZ, ask what the per-job cost is at your realistic concurrent job count. For seat-based tools like Manatal, ask what the price is for your full recruiter team including part-time and contract staff who need access. The entry plan price rarely reflects the real cost.
Seven, test the scoring on non-standard roles. AI screening tools are trained on common professional roles. Run a test on your most unusual open req, whether that’s a niche technical specialty, a bilingual customer support role, or an operations position with a JD written in internal company language. If the tool scores poorly on your hard reqs, it’s not useful where you need it most.
Picking the right AI resume screening tool
1. Where in your pipeline the bottleneck is
If applications are arriving and the problem is sorting volume, inbound screening tools (Manatal, CVViZ, Ceipal, Zoho Recruit) solve the problem. If the problem is finding candidates in the first place, outbound-sourcing tools with screening built in (hireEZ, Loxo, Fetcher) are more relevant.
If the pipeline exists but the time-to-first-screen is too long because of scheduling and qualification, conversational AI tools (Humanly) address the problem.
2. Your review volume and job count per month
Under 15 active jobs and fewer than 5 recruiters: Manatal at $15/user/mo is the decision. Over 15 active jobs or a flat-fee pricing preference: CVViZ at $99-$499/mo by job count. Staffing agencies with 30+ concurrent reqs across multiple clients: Ceipal or Loxo. Enterprise with 1,000+ FTE and a workforce planning mandate: Eightfold.
3. Inbound screening or outbound sourcing as the main challenge
Inbound screening (scoring applications that arrived via job posting): Manatal, CVViZ, Recruiterflow, Zoho Recruit, Workable. Outbound sourcing with screening embedded: hireEZ, Fetcher, Loxo. Both, plus conversational AI: Humanly, Ceipal at the enterprise level.
4. Your compliance obligations
For US employers in Illinois, NYC, or Colorado: confirm the vendor has a published adverse-impact analysis before procurement. Avoid tools where the vendor cannot produce one. For global employers with multilingual candidate pools: Textkernel (via API), Manatal, and Ceipal handle non-English resumes most reliably.
For UK/Ireland employers: Occupop is the GDPR-native option with the best compliance feature set for that market.
5. Standalone screening layer or an all-in-one platform
Standalone screening added to an existing ATS: Textkernel API, hireEZ. All-in-one ATS plus screening: Manatal, CVViZ, Recruiterflow, Workable, Ceipal, Zoho Recruit. All-in-one recruiting platform with screening as one feature: Gem (covered in our best AI recruiting software guide).
What’s changing in AI resume screening in 2026
AI-to-JD match quality is the new battleground. The 2024-2025 generation of tools competed on how many resumes they could process per hour.
In 2026, the differentiation has moved to match quality: does the AI score actually predict recruiter interest, or is it just keyword correlation with a confidence score label on top? Eightfold’s skills-graph model and hireEZ’s semantic match scoring are both responses to this shift.
Vendors that can’t explain their match logic in plain terms are running the 2023 product.
Agentic AI entered the screening workflow. hireEZ’s EZ Agent runs sourcing and initial screening autonomously overnight. Manatal added an AI Interviewer agent in 2026. The practical implication for TA teams: the recruiter configures criteria, the agent works, the recruiter reviews a pre-scored shortlist.
This changes how teams think about recruiter headcount relative to req load.
State-level AI hiring laws are creating procurement complexity. Illinois, New York City, and Colorado now require bias audits for AI tools used in hiring decisions. The requirement applies to resume screening tools, not just video interviewing. Every vendor in this guide that scores candidates should have a published adverse-impact analysis. Several don’t.
This is a non-negotiable checklist item for US employers, and vendors who can’t produce the documentation are a legal risk.
Parsing quality gaps are becoming visible at scale. As AI screening adoption grew, the failure modes became more apparent: PDFs with two-column layouts losing half the resume, academic CVs parsed into incorrect experience fields, non-Western name structures creating data errors that affect scoring.
Textkernel remains the most cited parser for accuracy in these edge cases, but the quality gap between the best and the rest is narrowing.
The resume screening tool pick for each hiring profile
Individual recruiter or 1-person TA team: CVViZ Starter at $99/mo for 5 active jobs. Transparent pricing, no-card trial, AI scoring visible on day one.
Startup under 20 FTE, first formal TA hire: Manatal Professional at $15/user/mo. Fastest path to a working AI ATS. Upgrade to Enterprise when you cross 15 concurrent jobs.
Series A to Series B (50-200 FTE), professional roles: Manatal Enterprise at $35/user/mo, or Workable Standard at $299/mo if you want the ATS to be best-in-class rather than just functional. Add hireEZ for outbound sourcing once your TA team hits 3 recruiters.
Staffing agency, 5-25 recruiters: Ceipal for multi-board ranking and agency-specific workflow, or Loxo as the alternative with more transparent pricing. Both require demo conversations.
Mid-market corporate TA (200-1,000 FTE): Zoho Recruit Professional at $50/user/mo if you’re in the Zoho ecosystem. Ceipal or TurboHire for dedicated screening-plus-interview automation. The Textkernel API as the parsing-accuracy layer if your current ATS is mishandling complex or multilingual resumes.
Enterprise (1,000+ FTE), skills-based hiring priority: Eightfold AI. 90-day implementation, $50K+ entry pricing, but the skills-graph model is the only one in this segment that can score against potential rather than just history.
High-volume frontline hiring (500+ hires/year): Humanly for voice-and-chat screening. Paradox (Olivia) as the better-documented alternative in our best AI recruiting software guide.
Early-career and campus recruiting: RippleMatch for diversity-forward early-career sourcing and matching.
Engineering team building custom screening into an existing HRIS: Textkernel API. Best multilingual parsing in the segment, REST API, now backed by Bullhorn’s R&D.

Frequently asked questions
What is AI resume screening?
Software that parses resume text and ranks candidates against job requirements using semantic AI models rather than keyword matching alone. Reduces manual review time 60-90%.
How accurate is AI resume screening?
Top tools reach 80-85% agreement with human reviewer decisions on first-call suitability. Accuracy drops for niche roles without structured JDs.
Does AI resume screening introduce bias?
It can. Tools trained on historical hiring data replicate past biases. Look for vendors with published adverse-impact analyses and anonymized screening options.
What is the difference between resume parsing and resume screening?
Parsing extracts structured data from resume text. Screening ranks parsed data against job requirements to produce a shortlist score. Most tools do both.
Which AI resume screening tool has public pricing?
