This guide covers the AI interview stage only: tools that help TA teams conduct, score, or document interviews after the screened shortlist is ready. It is not the same as sourcing or resume screening.

One, test the candidate completion rate in your first 10 invites. The biggest operational failure mode of async video interviewing is candidate drop-off before submission. A tool with a friction-heavy interface (requiring a plugin, forcing a login, showing a confusing permission request) will lose 20-40% of candidates before you see a response. Run 10 real candidate invites in the first week and measure how many complete the video. If it is below 70%, the interface is the problem.

Two, evaluate the AI scoring output against a human benchmark on 20 responses. Take 20 candidate videos and score them yourself first using your standard rubric. Then run the AI scoring. Async video interviewing with AI scoring triggers disclosure requirements in Illinois (AI Video Interview Act) and potentially in other states depending on how the AI output is used. Before your first live deployment, confirm with your legal team what candidate-facing disclosures are required and whether the vendor’s default consent flow covers them.

Six, test the hiring manager review experience without a recruiter account. Many async video tools require hiring managers to log in to review candidates. Test this flow with a manager who has never used the platform before, with no setup from the recruiter.
